#BehindTheBrand with Design Love Co.
Welcome to another edition of #BehindTheBrand, our blog series focused on giving you a look into the strategy and inspiration behind unique and successful accounts on Instagram.
This week we’re interviewing Marissa Cristina, the talent behind Design Love Co., a luxe paper brand based in Vancouver, BC.
What was your motivation to put @designloveco on Instagram?
I was using it for personal use already for my own account, @marissacristina, and I could see the marketing potential from a business perspective to create @designloveco. It just made sense to be on Instagram simply because it’s so visual and can communicate for the brand as a social platform.
Instagram has been a great way for Design Love Co. to share our day to day with our customers. We try to treat Instagram as a way to show the customer how to use and style our products. The fact that it’s so visual makes it a fantastic tool to use for marketing and advertising purposes.
How relevant is Instagram for your brand?
Instagram is really the number one most successful social channel for Design Love Co. simply because it allows us to be share our aesthetic and show our customers how we use the product. In addition to that, I also find Instagram to be a great source of inspiration and a place where one can find trends in design and fashion. I actually spend a great deal of personal time on Instagram looking for exactly that!
What’s the strategy and inspiration behind your Instagram account?
We are still in the early stages and because of my genuine passion a lot of influencers are more than happy to help out. It’s been an incredible journey. I shoot a lot of photos all at once and schedule them throughout the week. It’s impossible to post things on a daily basis because shooting and editing take up a large chunk of time.

What sort of engagement benchmarks are you looking to achieve with your Instagram content in terms of likes, comments, etc?
We look at the number of likes a photo receives and always try to curate content based on what our audience wants and which photos get the most likes. Comments are important too, but we get most of our valuable comments on posts that ask for customer feedback. Our comment count varies, but we are usually above 170 and have gotten close to 700.
Latergramme is here to help.

What type of photos get the most engagement?
The photos that get the most engagement are the ones that have people in them, naturally. That’s something we are actually actively working on increasing because we currently focus more on product and decor, which needs to change.
The photos that are styled with desks, computers and, our stationary or planner, get the most likes. Who doesn’t love an organized desk with beautiful pen and paper by your side?
What’s your favorite type of photo to share?
My personal favorite type of photo to share is a perfectly styled office desk. Since we are all about stylish organization, a nicely organized desk is pure bliss.
Know your audience. You have to learn from them and know what they want and don’t want to see. You have to also provide them with consistent beautiful content.
What’s your process for managing Instagram content? How does Latergramme play into your process?
Latergramme allows me to schedule content in advance so if there are days where I am taking some time off from social media, I can still be active on Instagram. I also supplement this with authentic content to keep it fresh.
What are some Instagram accounts you think people should follow?
Do you have any advice for brands using Instagram?
Pay close attention to what’s working and what’s not on your Instagram account over a period of a couple months. Pay attention to the time of day, type of content, what your caption reads (including emoji’s!), and hashtags. Based on that data and information you can support what’s working and correct what isn’t.
What is the biggest thing you have learned since you started using Instagram and/or Latergramme?
