The Boyfriend Effect refers to a TikTok trend that shows what people looked like before they got into a relationship versus how they look after getting into a relationship.

The idea is that people looked more dolled up before getting into a relationship versus after when they’re usually in no makeup and wearing sweat pants. 

Some TikTok users believe that the boyfriend effect is a positive thing demonstrating that once you enter a relationship with someone you feel comfortable with, you yourself become more comfortable and embrace your natural beauty. Whereas some users believe that the boyfriend effect is a negative phenomenon and vow to combat it in their next relationship. Ultimately, what matters is that each person is treated well within their relationship.
