So how do you find your personalized best time to post on Facebook?

In this guide, we’ll share exactly how to find your best time to post on Facebook for maximum reach, exposure, and engagement.

When is the Best Time to Post on Facebook?

When it comes to the best time to post on Facebook, there’s really no one-size-fits-all approach.

Some say it’s on weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm, while others say the best time is on Wednesdays between 11 am and 1 pm.

But that doesn’t mean those are the best times for you!

While these can be a helpful starting point, the fact is that every Facebook Page is different — with different audiences in different cities and time zones.

Finding your personalized best time to post on Facebook is a great way to maximize your reach, exposure, and engagement because it gives you a better chance of reaching your audience when most of them are online!

Here’s how to do it:

How to Find Your Best Time to Post on Facebook in 2021

Unlike Later’s Best Time to Post feature for Instagram, which makes it really easy to calculate your 7 top posting times each week, you’ll need to do a little digging (and maybe some testing) to find your best time to post on Facebook.

#1: Find Your Top Engagement Times in Your Facebook Page Insights

When it comes to the best time to post on Facebook, it’s essential to think about the time zones of your Facebook Page’s followers.

Luckily, Facebook Page Insights offers a ton of useful data around your Page’s performance, including demographic data about your audience and how people are responding to your posts. You’ll also see when people are looking at your Page and how they found it, which can help you nail down your top posting times!

To see insights about your Page’s followers, open your Facebook Page and click the “See  All” button next to Insights (you can also find your insights in the Manage Page toolbar).

On the left side of the screen, you’ll find the different sections of your Page Insights, while the right side of the page shows graphs and charts related to these sections.

To start, open the 5 Most Recent Posts section of the Insights page. This will open a graph showing when your followers are online (don’t forget to take note of the time zone!):

If you hover your cursor over the days at the top of the page, you can see which ones result in the most engagement on your Page:

You can also open the Page Views section of Insights (the number of people who have viewed your Page), and sort by country or city to see which locations are generating the most views:

Facebook also tracks the reach and engagement of your Facebook posts, which can be a great resource for finding out when your fans are most likely to engage with your content.

Within your Page Insights, click Posts and then scroll down to All Posts Published:

Here you can sort posts by Likes, Comments, and Shares to see the total engagement by type for each post.

Pay special attention to the Published column — this tells you when each post was published to your Facebook Page.

Are you seeing any trends? You’ll have to cross-reference the posting times manually (there’s no way to sort this data), but this is another great way to find out when your audience is online and most likely to engage with your content.

NOTE: Keep in mind that if you boost your Facebook posts, your engagement numbers may be a little skewed!

#2: Check Your Facebook Audience Insights

Facebook Audience Insights was designed to help you plan and optimize your Facebook ad campaigns — but it’s also a great resource to find your audience’s locations and top time zones!

Unlike Page Insights, which looks at interactions with your Page (i.e. likes, comments, and shares), Audience Insights looks at your current or potential customers across all of Facebook, including their demographics, interests, and behavioral data.

To get started, simply open your Audience Insights dashboard and select whether you want insights about Everyone on Facebook (all Facebook users) or only People connected to your Page. (We recommend the second option since you’re looking to learn more about your existing Facebook audience!).

Within the Audience Insights dashboard, you can narrow in on the audience characteristics you want to target on the left side of the page (i.e. Location, Age and Gender, and Interests), while the right side of the page shows graphs and charts related to your audience.

If you already know which country the majority of your Facebook Page subscribers are from, you can add that info to the Location field. If you aren’t sure, just leave it blank.

Now click over to the Location tab.

This is where you can see where most of your potential fans live (including their top cities and countries) and what languages they speak.

This information is extremely helpful for pinpointing your top time zones! For example, if you learn that a majority of your Facebook Page subscribers are based on the west coast of North America, that’s a good indication that you should experiment with different posting times in the PST time zone.

#3: Use Creator Studio to See What Locations are the Most Engaged

Along with many other features, Facebook’s Creator Studio also includes an Insights tab to help creators better understand their audience and how people are interacting with their content.

It isn’t nearly as in-depth as Page Insights or Audience Insights, but it does have its uses.

For example, if you open the Video Insights tab and navigate to Audience, you’ll find a breakdown of your top (most engaged)  audiences on Facebook, including where they’re located.

If you notice that viewers from a certain country are more engaged with your video content, that could be a signal to post in that country’s time zones.

#4: Experiment with Posting Times and Measure your Progress

Once you have a clearer picture of where your audience lives and their top time zones, it’s time to test different posting times and measure your progress!

For this, we recommend creating a spreadsheet to track how much engagement you receive when you post at different times on different days.

Start by picking five different times throughout the week.

For example, if you notice that your followers are most active between 5 and 9 pm EST, schedule your posts to appear at 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 pm.

In your spreadsheet, track how many likes and comments each post receives, along with the date and time that you posted them.

The following week, switch the timing of your posts for each day. For example, if you posted at 5 pm on Monday in week 1, post at 6 pm during week 2.

It might take a few weeks, but you can use this information to help you choose the best days to share to specific networks based on your own audience, along with the times that work best for getting traffic on those specific days.

Other Factors to Consider:

  • Post for your most active timezone(s): you may be located in LA, but if most of your followers are in New York, you should be posting with the EST time zone in mind. If you have followers in both North America and the UK, you may find that posting at “odd” times in your timezone (like midnight PST) actually perform well for you, because it’s 8 am in London, England.

  • Dig into your audience demographics: While many say that the best time to post on Facebook is before work or at lunch, that’s assuming that the majority of your followers work full-time jobs. It could very well be that you’re targeting college students or retirees, in which case those times may not be optimal for you.
