This is important, because with just a few lines of copy, The Wing is able to niche down to a very specific type of female audience, one that relates to its strong company culture and core values.

Use the Name Field to Share Your Top Targeted Keywords

Next is your name, which is different from your username! While many people opt to use their username in their bio, the username in this field is a lost opportunity because the words you include in your name field are actually searchable on Instagram! A better strategy is to use targeted keywords.

Try to think about the keywords that your followers are searching for on Instagram — maybe it’s your business niche or the products you sell. Once you find the right keywords, put them into your name field.

For instance, the account conscious.kin wouldn’t show up when a user searches for natural skincare products — that’s why they included “Clean Beauty. Natural Skincare” in their name field:

After doing a quick search for “natural skincare,” I was able to discover the shop and quickly learn about their products and mission by scanning their bio!

While trying to decide how to brand yourself on Instagram, it’s important to consider what your visitors are looking for and how you can present them with the most information in the least amount of time.

Add Clickable Links Within Your Instagram Bio to Mention Related Accounts + Share Your Brand’s Hashtag

Prior to March 2018, your Instagram profile could only contain one clickable hyperlink — the URL at the bottom of your Instagram bio. However, since then, any profile usernames or hashtags that you add into your Instagram bio will now become clickable links as well!  

When you include a “#” or “@” in your bio, it automatically becomes a clickable link that will lead visitors to either a hashtag or another profile. That means you can use your personal Instagram bio to promote your Instagram business profile, or share where you work by mentioning your company’s Instagram username!

If you’re a larger brand, like @nike for example, you can also use this as an opportunity to link to your other branded accounts, such as @nikewomen.

Once you’ve added any applicable usernames, you can add in hashtags too! By adding hashtags into your Instagram bio, profile visitors are able to click directly through to view the respective content, so this is a great opportunity to share your brand hashtag.

Placing hashtags in your bio doesn’t make your profile searchable within those hashtags, but adding your company’s branded hashtag into your Instagram bio is a great way to share your community and invite others to participate in it as well.
