How to Customize Your Instagram Fonts

As far as Instagram fonts go, there aren’t a whole lot of options.

You can use 5 different fonts in your Instagram Stories, but when it comes to your bio, captions, and comments, Instagram only gives you one option.

But what if we told you that you could access more fonts on Instagram?

Whether you’re looking to spruce up your Instagram bio or create a more branded look in your Instagram Stories, in the following post, we explain how to find and use custom Instagram fonts on your account:

How to Use Custom Instagram Fonts in Your Bio, Captions & Comments

Building a distinct visual brand on Instagram is actually pretty easy! You can edit your photos in a consistent way, upload cohesive Instagram Stories Highlights covers, and so much more.

But when it comes to Instagram fonts, the options are pretty limited.

Actually, they’re very limited. Instagram offers just a single font option for your bio, captions, and comments.

But did you know you can actually use other fonts on Instagram?

You’ll need to use an app or web tool, but by doing so you can unlock tons of different Instagram-compatible fonts for your account.

Here’s how to do it:

Step #1: Pick a New Instagram Font

We recommend using a free Instagram fonts tool like Instagram Fonts or Fonts for Instagram, or an app like Fonts – for Instagram.

The benefit of using one of these tools is that they test beforehand whether certain fonts are compatible with Instagram. So they take out the guesswork.

All you have to do is paste or type a piece of text and then sort through the results to find one that fits your brand aesthetic.

Step #2: Paste the Font in Your Bio, Captions, or Comments

Once you find a winner, all you have to do is copy the text, open the Instagram app, and paste it.

If you tap the Edit Profile button on your profile, you can paste the text in either your Name or Bio.

You can also post the text in the caption of one of your Instagram posts.

Or you can paste the text as a comment on someone else’s post.

Simple, right?

We should mention that it’s generally best practice not to go overboard with your Instagram fonts — especially if you’re a business. A little customization is great, but too much can make your profile look, well… you tell us!

How to Use Custom Instagram Fonts on Instagram Stories

Unlike the rest of Instagram, on Instagram Stories you get access to 5 different fonts: classic, modern, neon, typewriter, and strong.

But what if you’re looking for something a little more branded?

Well, you have a few options:

Option #1: Use a Graphic Design App

The first option is to use a graphic design tool like CanvaTyporama, or Font Candy. (There are actually tons of apps that let you add custom fonts to your Instagram Stories, but you should be able to get the look you want with one of the apps mentioned above).

Start by opening the app (we’ll use Canva in this example) and scroll to the “Your Story” option. Here you can pick one of Canva’s Instagram Stories templates or the “Blank” option.

Upload a photo or background and then tap the “+” button in the bottom-right corner.

Here you can pick one of Canva’s text templates or, if you want more control, select the “Add some text of your own” option.

You can change the size, alignment, line height, spacing, and much more.

Canva comes with a ton of different fonts, but you can also upload your own brand fonts if you upgrade to a paid account.

Once you’re happy, tap the download button in the top-right corner and the design will automatically save to your camera roll, so you can easily upload it to your Instagram Stories.

What if you want to add a custom font to an Instagram Stories video?

You can still use a graphic design app! Hype Type, Videorama, and Vont all let you add custom Instagram fonts to your videos (and there are tons of other apps that do this too).

Here’s how to do it with Hype Type:

Start by opening the app and swiping-up to access your camera roll.

Once you find the right video, tap the “T” button at the bottom of the screen.

Here you’ll be able to pick from a collection of animated and non-animated texts.

Once you’re happy, tap the checkmark button and download the video to your camera roll.

Option #2: Use an Instagram Stories Template

A second option is to use a pre-made Instagram Stories template.

The benefit of using a template is that they’re usually made by designers. So if you don’t have an eye for what fonts go well together, or what colors and layouts make the most sense for your brand, a stories template is a great option.
